For three decades, Torrevieja’s Civil Protection volunteers have been there when the city needs them most, giving their time to help residents during emergencies and major events. Now Torrevieja has marked the group’s 30th anniversary with a special ceremony celebrating the volunteers and recognising the emergency services and organisations that have worked alongside them.
Torrevieja celebrates 30 years of volunteering
Torrevieja’s Civil Protection group celebrated its 30th anniversary with a special ceremony over the second weekend of October, recognising the volunteers, organisations and emergency services that have supported its work over the years.
The event was a chance to shine a light on those who work quietly behind the scenes, giving their time freely to help residents during emergencies and whenever extra support is needed.
Mayor Eduardo Dolon attended alongside Security and Emergencies councillor Federico Alarcon and Civil Protection chief Enrique Pizana, with volunteers receiving diplomas and awards for their service.
Golden Triangle awards recognise emergency services
To mark the anniversary, a special ‘Golden Triangle’ award was also introduced, recognising organisations which have worked particularly closely with Civil Protection.
The first awards went to Torrevieja Fire Brigade, Torrevieja Local Police and the Guardia Civil, highlighting the teamwork between the different services when the community needs them.
Alejandro Morer, director general of the Local Police, was also presented with the Gold Cross for Distinguished Services.
The awards provided an opportunity to recognise the cooperation between volunteers and professional emergency services that has developed during the group’s three decades in Torrevieja.
Volunteers remain at the heart of Civil Protection
But the real stars of the occasion were the volunteers themselves.
Thirty years after the group was formed, they continue to give their time without asking for anything in return, helping make Torrevieja a safer and more caring place to call home.
The anniversary ceremony celebrated not only three decades of service but also the people who continue to step forward whenever their community needs additional help.
For Torrevieja’s Civil Protection volunteers, the milestone represents 30 years of commitment, teamwork and community service, with the group continuing its work across the city today.
