SA reality TV star Ratile Mabitsela went under the knife on Monday, 12 October 2026, and she brought her followers along for every candid moment. In a documentary-style Instagram Reel, Ratile took fans inside the hospital as she prepared for and began recovering from a mastopexy, performed by Prof Sofianos at CS Surgery.
Ratile's mastopexy diary begins
The video was filmed indoors, moving through the hospital's reception area, elevator, and patient ward in a vertical format that gave the footage a raw, personal feel. Ratile kept the tone warm and even lighthearted despite the vulnerability of the setting. In one moment, she quipped about the theatre being packed, telling someone off-camera that there were about six patients ahead of her. Pre-operative advice about nutrition, specifically protein intake and low sugar, also made it into the clip.
Captioning the post "Mastopexy Diaries 🍒 | Scene 1: Surgery Day," Ratile was upfront about why she decided to make this so public. She wrote that her self-love journey had shown her that loving yourself looks different for everyone, and that she wanted to give other women who might be considering the same procedure the information and reassurance they often cannot find.
Why she is sharing her recovery
"I've chosen to share this journey because I know there are women who may be considering the same procedure but have questions, fears or simply don't know what to expect," Ratile wrote. She added that she plans to document everything from surgery day through to the realities of healing and recovery, saying "these conversations shouldn't have to happen behind closed doors."
