Marine life is flourishing at China’s first tropical marine ranch off Hainan’s Wuzhizhou Island in south China, where a thriving coral reef system has drawn rare marine species back to local waters.
Recent monitoring recorded species with strict habitat demands, including ribbon eels and colorful sea slugs, confirming that local marine biodiversity continues to expand.
From 2010, Wuzhizhou Island began building China’s first tropical marine ranch to restore underwater ecology, previously damaged by typhoons and fishing activities. The waters surrounding the island contain numerous species such as sea cucumbers, sea urchins and tropical fish.
A coral restoration program was launched in 2016. The coral restoration program has transformed Wuzhizhou into a model of sustainable marine tourism where ecological improvement and tourism coexist harmoniously.

The Department of Meteorology says a low-level atmospheric disturbance near Sri Lanka is likely to develop into a low-pressure area within the next 24 hours.
Under the influence of this system, an increase in rainfall is expected over the island and the deep and shallow sea areas around the island during the next few days from today (Oct. 21).
The general public, as well as the naval and fishing communities, are requested to be attentive to the future forecasts and bulletins issued by the Department of Meteorology in this regard.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times over most parts of the island.
Cloudy skies can be expected over most parts of the island.
Heavy falls above 100 mm are likely at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-western, Northern and Southern provinces and in Anuradhapura district.
The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage from temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Misty conditions can be expected at some places in Central and Uva provinces during the early hours of the morning.
A timekeeper attached to the Gampaha Regional Office of the Road Passenger Transport Authority has been arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) over an alleged Rs. 100 bribe.
The suspect, identified as Deepal Perera, was arrested yesterday (20) inside the timekeeper’s booth at the Raddolugama Bus Stand.
According to CIABOC, he allegedly solicited the money from the operator of a bus operating on Route No. 188 between Raddolugama and Colombo.
The bribe was allegedly sought in exchange for allowing the bus to depart after its scheduled time recorded in the official logbook and permitting it to operate under favourable conditions.
