Uma Raghuvanshi, mother of slain newlywed Raja Raghuvanshi, has demanded capital punishment for prime accused Sonam Raghuvanshi and five co-accused in the Meghalaya honeymoon murder case. Drawing parallels with the recent “Meerut Blue Drum” murder verdict, she urged the judiciary to deliver swift justice.
Speaking to ANI, Uma emphasized that all individuals involved in the crime, whether in execution or conspiracy, should face the maximum statutory punishment. “Just as Muskan and Sahil were sentenced to death in the ‘Meerut Blue Drum’ case, I want Sonam and her accomplices to be given the death penalty as well. Only then will I find peace,” she said.
Her remarks follow the sentencing of Muskan Rastogi and Sahil Shukla to death for the murder of former Merchant Navy officer Saurabh Rajput, a case categorised as “rarest of rare” by the Meerut court.
Raja Raghuvanshi, a resident of Indore, was found dead in a gorge near Sohra (Cherrapunji) on June 2, 2025, during his honeymoon trip with wife Sonam. Sonam was later traced near a roadside dhaba along the Varanasi-Ghazipur highway. The Meghalaya Police SIT reconstructed the crime scene in Sohra with Sonam and three others present, as part of its investigation.
Uma Raghuvanshi has now appealed to the government and judiciary to ensure that Raja’s case receives the same decisive closure as the Meerut verdict, underscoring her call for capital punishment against all accused.
