After threatening his roommate, Everett Nigel Worrell broke into an empty St James house and began living there.
The 54-year-old of no fixed place of abode was sentenced to 120 days in prison for trespassing on the property on July 11.
He also pleaded guilty to damaging the locks on one of the doors on the same date and to using threatening words, ‘I gine kill you, ya **’, towards Mark Griffith on June 15.
PC Cindy Greaves told the No. 2 District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court that the caretaker of the house had been informed that a man was occupying the otherwise vacant property, which is for sale.
When the caretaker and a carpenter visited the property, they found someone living inside. They replaced the damaged locks on the doors. The caretaker reported the incident, and police arrested Worrell.
In the June 15 case, the court heard that Worrell and Griffith had lived at the same address for a year. The complainant returned home one day and found the accused’s dog blocking the door to the residence. He asked Worrell to move the dog, and Worrell placed the animal by the complainant’s bedroom door.
The complainant shouted at the dog, and it moved. Griffith changed his clothes and left the house.
When he returned home later that night, he found that his bed was wet and went outside to speak to the caretaker about what had occurred. While Griffith was outside, the accused shouted at and threatened him. Fearing for his safety, the complainant left the residence.
Acting Magistrate Shakieda Sealy sentenced Worrell to 120 days in prison for trespassing and 30 days for both the threatening words and criminal damage offences.
The sentences are to run concurrently.
