KATHMANDU: West Indies’ explosive batter Sherfane Rutherford has signed with Sudurpaschim Royals for the third edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL).
The 28-year-old left-handed batter and medium-pace bowler is known for his aggressive approach in the shorter formats of the game. He can score quickly in the middle order, making him a valuable addition to the team’s batting lineup.
Rutherford has represented the West Indies in 31 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and 61 T20 Internationals, scoring 873 runs and 1,123 runs in the two formats, respectively. His highest score in T20 Internationals is 84.
Across all forms of T20 cricket, Rutherford has scored 5,090 runs in 283 matches, including 324 sixes, at a batting strike rate of 142.05.
He has extensive franchise cricket experience, having played in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), Indian Premier League (IPL), Pakistan Super League (PSL), Bangladesh Premier League, Sri Lanka Premier League, ILT20 and Major League Cricket.
Rutherford was part of the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots squad that won the CPL title in 2021 and the Karachi Kings team that claimed the PSL championship in 2020.
In the IPL, he scored 291 runs in 13 matches for Gujarat Titans in 2025. He has also represented Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Although he was associated with title-winning Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders squads, he did not feature in matches during those seasons.
Sudurpaschim Royals CEO Prakash Khadka said Rutherford’s arrival would strengthen the team’s batting and all-round capabilities.
“We are excited to have an experienced and aggressive player like Sherfane Rutherford join Sudurpaschim Royals. We believe that his batting ability and franchise cricket experience will strengthen the team. His presence in the NPL will also excite the supporters. We expect his contribution to be significant in the team’s goals this season,” Khadka said.
Rutherford also expressed enthusiasm about joining the Royals and playing in Nepal, saying he was eager to contribute to the team and showcase his skills to Nepali fans.
“I am very excited to be associated with Sudurpaschim Royals. I am looking forward to the opportunity to play in the NPL and show my skills in front of the Nepali fans. My goal is to perform well with the team and give exciting cricket to the supporters,” he said.
