The DND-Jaitpur-Faridabad-Palwal-Sohna expressway corridor has reached a key milestone, with the final stretch completed and an inauguration possible later this year, according to a TOI report. South Delhi MP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri said the completed stretch had undergone technical evaluations, including load testing by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). During trial runs, the journey from Sarai Kale Khan to Sohna and Palwal took around 40-45 minutes, compared with nearly three hours during peak traffic, he said. Prime Minister Narendra Modi may inaugurate the corridor later this year, sources indicated to TOI.
DND-Sohna Expressway: Route and connectivity
The corridor is expected to improve connectivity between Delhi and key destinations in Haryana, including Faridabad, Ballabhgarh, Sohna and Palwal. It connects Sarai Kale Khan with Jaitpur and Meethapur before extending towards Faridabad and the wider expressway network.
The 59-km DND-Faridabad-Sohna Access Controlled Highway (NH-148A) is complemented by a 9-km Delhi section connecting the DND Flyway to Jaitpur. The route also links with the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway and the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway network.
The corridor is expected to provide an alternative to existing routes, particularly the congested Ring Road and Mathura Road stretches used by commuters travelling from Delhi towards Faridabad and southern Haryana.
Travel time from Delhi to Faridabad, Sohna and Palwal
According to Bidhuri, the expressway could reduce the journey from Sarai Kale Khan to Sohna and Palwal to 40-45 minutes during trial runs, compared with up to three hours in peak traffic.
The travel time from the DND Flyway to Faridabad is also expected to fall to around 20 minutes, from the current 30 minutes required to cover the Ashram-Badarpur border section, he said.
The new route is expected to ease congestion around Ashram Chowk, Kalindi Kunj and Mathura Road, while helping commuters save time and fuel.
“This would be major relief for South Delhi constituency as the new corridor would help ease congestion at Ashram Chowk, Kalindi Kunj and along Mathura Road, besides reducing travel time and fuel consumption,” Bidhuri said.
He added that the completion of the final stretch would benefit commuters travelling towards southern Haryana.
DND-Jaitpur section on trial; Haryana stretch operational
The corridor has different operating arrangements across its Delhi and Haryana sections.
The 9-km stretch between the DND Flyway and Jaitpur in Delhi has opened on a trial basis. It is toll-free during this period, with a speed limit of 40 kmph as NHAI monitors traffic movement.
The approximately 50-km Haryana section, connecting Jaitpur with Sohna and the KMP Expressway, has moved beyond the trial phase and is operational, with toll collection and standard highway regulations in place.
Once the remaining formalities are completed and the corridor becomes fully operational under the applicable arrangements, it is expected to offer commuters a faster alternative to existing roads between Delhi and Haryana.
