Packers Week 7 injury report vs. Lions: Are Christian Watson, Matthew Golden injuries cause for concern? appeared first on ClutchPoints. Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Green Bay Packers have reason for concern at wide receiver entering Week 7 against the Detroit Lions, but the available injury report does not justify assuming Christian Watson or Matthew Golden will miss the matchup.
Watson, dealing with an ankle injury, and Golden, managing a shoulder issue, were limited participants Wednesday and Thursday. Neither progressed to full participation across those sessions, although neither was listed as a nonparticipant.
They are officially questionable coming into this Week 7 matchup. For Green Bay, the concern centers on potential limitations and thinning receiver depth, not confirmed absences.

Christian Watson and Matthew Golden warrant monitoring, not panic
Watson’s ankle issue deserves attention because his value extends beyond catching passes. His ability to threaten downfield can influence safety positioning and create space for other receivers.
His production reinforces that importance. Through six games, Watson has 29 receptions for 538 yards and six touchdowns, averaging approximately 18.6 yards per catch. Removing that explosive element would change how Green Bay attacks Detroit.
Still, two limited practices cannot establish how effectively he can accelerate, separate or handle a full workload. Those remain football questions, not conclusions supported by the participation designations alone.
Golden’s shoulder injury creates uncertainty. His 30 catches for 501 yards and three touchdowns through six games show how much production Green Bay would risk losing if his availability becomes restricted.
For a receiver, the practical concern is whether discomfort affects catching, extending for throws or handling contact. However, the report provides no diagnosis beyond “shoulder” and no evidence establishing those limitations.
Both players practicing in some capacity is preferable to consecutive absences. The lack of an upgrade means their situations still require monitoring, especially with multiple teammates also managing injuries.
Jordan Love’s improvement offers reassurance amid receiver concerns
The most encouraging offensive development belongs to Jordan Love. Listed with a back injury, the quarterback advanced from limited participation Wednesday to full participation Thursday.
That progression offers a more positive signal than the unchanged designations for Watson and Golden. It does not independently establish Love’s final status, but it suggests his practice workload increased rather than decreased.
The receiver picture is less settled. Bo Melton missed both listed practices with a back injury, making his participation pattern more concerning than those of Watson and Golden.
Savion Williams also remained limited Wednesday and Thursday because of an ankle injury. Taken together, those four receiver listings create a broader preparation problem.
Even if Watson and Golden play, Green Bay must consider whether either needs a reduced workload. Melton’s absences and Williams’ limitations could complicate the alternatives.
Guard Aaron Banks was limited both days with knee and toe injuries, adding another offensive situation to monitor before any availability assessment becomes definitive.
Defensive injuries leave additional questions against Detroit
Green Bay’s defensive report contains several unresolved situations. Defensive tackles Anthony Campbell and Jordon Riley were limited Wednesday and Thursday with ankle and Achilles injuries, respectively.
Cornerbacks Brandon Cisse and Benjamin St-Juste followed the same participation pattern. Cisse is managing shoulder and neck issues, while St-Juste has a hamstring injury.
Zaire Franklin appeared as limited Thursday with a shin injury after no Wednesday injury listing. Lukas Van Ness similarly moved onto the report Thursday as limited because of illness.
Those additions deserve attention, but the available information does not establish their game availability.
For Watson and Golden, the assessment is measured concern. Their continued participation keeps playing possible, while missing final designations prevent stronger conclusions about Green Bay’s receiving options against Detroit.
