The Chief of Staff to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Segun Ogunwuyi, has resigned from office, becoming the latest high-ranking political appointee to quit the administration in recent months.
Ogunwuyi’s resignation takes immediate effect, according to a letter dated Monday, October 12, 2026, and addressed to Governor Makinde.
The development comes amid a string of departures by political appointees in the administration over the past two months, although Ogunwuyi did not disclose any reason for his resignation.
In the letter, Ogunwuyi expressed gratitude to Makinde for the opportunity to serve and said he was proud of his contributions to the administration and the development of the state.
“I respectfully write to resign my appointment as Chief of Staff to the Governor of Oyo State, with effect from today, 12th October, 2026,” he stated.
Reflecting on his tenure, the former lawmaker described his service to the state as an honour and praised members of the governor’s team for their efforts.
“Serving the Government and the good people of Oyo State has been a great honour. It has been deeply fulfilling to be part of the exceptional team that has worked relentlessly to deliver the remarkable achievements of this administration,” Ogunwuyi said.
He added that he remained proud of what the administration had achieved in advancing the state’s development.
“I remain immensely proud of what we have collectively accomplished in advancing the growth, development and prosperity of our dear State. As I take this decision, I do so with profound gratitude for the opportunity to serve, with confidence in the continued progress of Oyo State,” he said.
Ogunwuyi also reaffirmed his respect for the governor and his commitment to Oyo State and Nigeria.
“Please accept, Your Excellency, the assurances of my highest esteem and unwavering loyalty to Oyo State and the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he added.
No reason was given for the resignation in the letter, and there was no immediate indication of what Ogunwuyi’s next political move would be.
Ogunwuyi, a former member of both the Oyo State House of Assembly and the House of Representatives, has had a long political career spanning different political platforms, including the Peoples Democratic Party, Labour Party and All Progressives Congress.
His political relationship with Makinde developed within the shifting political landscape of Oyo State following the 2019 governorship election.
After Makinde won the governorship election on the platform of the PDP, Ogunwuyi joined his administration as Executive Assistant on Investment. He was subsequently appointed Director-General of the Oyo State Investment and Public-Private Partnership Agency.
In July 2021, Makinde elevated Ogunwuyi to the position of Chief of Staff, placing him at the centre of the governor’s office and giving him a key role in coordinating government activities and supporting the governor’s administration.
His resignation now marks a major change in the leadership structure of the Makinde administration, coming at a time when the government has witnessed a number of changes among its political appointees.
