Perth officially has a new best bakery!
After thousands of locals voted in PerthNow Pulse’s search, Kilo Bakery & Coffee in Padbury has been crowned Perth’s best bakery, only a year and a half after opening.
Baking artisan bread, pastries, pizza al taglio fresh all day, five days a week, it’s a common sight to see people lining up around the small Padbury establishment for these delicious treats.
Owners Luca and James have brought a taste of Italy all the way to the city’s north, with the brothers saying the win is a “big success” having only been operating for 18 months.
“Luca was always into coffee, and he dragged me from the UK, actually, where I was living,” James said.

“We didn’t have a plan exactly what to do at the start.
“Then I got a bit more experience in the bakery side and (Luca) said, ‘Okay, let’s make it happen now’.
“You know, he’s got the coffee, spirit, teas, and I got the bakery side. So I say, let’s make it work.”
Luca said there is one item so popular it doesn’t even last minutes in the display cabinet.

“Foccacia is one of the best sellers. We can’t even bring it out or tidy it up on the tray because it just goes,” he said.
“I think our rolls are even more popular because they are different. We gave that Italian touch with truffle mayonnaise, the mushroom, the porchetta. I think people are enjoying what what we’re doing different here.”
The Italian brothers said the customers have become their family.
“We love our customers, we love the people that come. We remember most of their names, so we wouldn’t be here without them.”
