The Basketball Association of Malawi (BASMAL) has challenged teams in the Mo626 Varsity Games to raise their game, warning that the regional stages are only a warm-up for tougher competition at the national championship.

Speaking after the games at the University of Malawi (UNIMA) in Zomba on Saturday, BASMAL Technical Director Hope Chisamanga said several teams had improved during the regional competition.
He cautioned that progress should not breed complacency.
“The players should not be comfortable. They need to work extra hard, as the games are just getting started,” said Chisamanga.
He said the competition gives university students a chance to test their abilities, and that the level of play matters to the continued development of basketball in Malawi.
He credited National Bank of Malawi (NBM) plc for its support.
NBM plc Marketing and Corporate Affairs Manager Akossa Mphepo-Hiwa said the bank was pleased to see the Games making steady progress towards the final stage.
“As a Bank, empowering young people is one of our commitments, and the Mo626 Varsity Games are one of a kind,” said Mphepo-Hiwa.
