Phones under Rs 40,000 used to mean compromises: a good camera or a good battery, rarely both. That’s changed. This Flipkart sale puts the motorola edge 70 pro, vivo T5 Pro 5G, Nothing Phone (4a) and POCO X8 Pro in that exact bracket, and between them they cover almost everything a flagship shopper actually cares about.

Let’s look at what Rs 40,000 buys you today, then see how these four models stack up. Prices are Flipkart list or offer prices, so check the sale offers before you buy.
What does Rs 40,000 actually get you in a phone today?
At this price, you’re no longer choosing one strength and living with the rest. Here’s what to actually look for before you buy:
1) Camera
The best camera phone under ₹40,000 should offer OIS, versatile lenses and strong video capabilities, not just high megapixels. OIS keeps photos sharp in low light and videos steady while you walk, which matters more in daily use than a bigger resolution number.
A useful camera setup also gives you more than one focal length, such as an ultrawide for group shots and a capable front camera for video calls. Video stabilisation, 4K recording and features that help with framing and colour accuracy show how well a camera handles real moments.
2) Performance
A capable processor, ample RAM, fast storage and effective cooling can define the best performance phone under ₹40,000. The chipset sets the ceiling, but RAM and storage speed decide how quickly apps open and how well the phone holds several of them in memory.
Cooling matters just as much, because a phone that overheats slows itself down during long gaming sessions or heavy multitasking. Look for consistent performance over time, not just a high benchmark score.
3) Display
A high-refresh-rate AMOLED display with strong brightness and accurate colours can make everyday usage smoother and more premium. A 120Hz or 144Hz panel makes scrolling, gaming and animations feel more fluid than a standard 60Hz screen.
Peak brightness decides whether you can read the screen outdoors in harsh sunlight, while colour accuracy and HDR support make photos and streaming content look natural. Resolution, panel size and PWM dimming rate also affect comfort during long viewing sessions.
4) Battery & Charging
Large batteries paired with fast charging can help identify the best battery mobile phone for demanding days. Capacity tells you how long the phone lasts, while charging speed tells you how quickly it recovers when you forget to plug it in.
Silicon-carbon cells now fit bigger capacities into slimmer bodies, so a large battery no longer means a thick or heavy phone. Consider both together, since a big battery with slow charging can still leave you waiting at the wall.
5) Durability & Connectivity
Strong glass, water and dust resistance, 5G and modern Wi-Fi support add confidence for daily use. An IP68 or IP69 rating covers accidental splashes, rain and dust, and stronger glass helps the screen survive everyday knocks.
Reliable 5G and up-to-date Wi-Fi keep streaming, video calls and downloads running well, and they help the phone stay useful for longer as networks improve. Software update support is worth checking too, since it decides how long the phone stays secure and current.
With that in mind, let’s look at where these four phones fit in.
