DIMAPUR, OCT 19 (NPN): Cüze Rülho Khel Youth Organisation (CRYO), Nerhema, has condemned the alleged kidnapping, wrongful confinement and sexual assault of a woman by a private taxi driver while travelling from Kohima to Chiephobozou on October 17, 2026.
In a statement, CRYO president Ruokuohetuo Rülho, vice president Letuozo Kiewhuo and general secretary Keneisetuo Kiewhuo identified the accused as Ruokuotuolie Rüpreo (28), son of Suolahie Rüpreo, and alleged that the incident occurred around 1:30 p.m.
According to CRYO, the driver allegedly failed to stop at the woman’s destination and instead took her towards the Chiechama-Botsa route, locked her inside the vehicle and sexually assaulted her. Describing the incident as a violation of women’s dignity, safety and fundamental rights, CRYO said it had undermined public trust in the transport system and posed a serious threat to the safety of women and girls in Nagaland.
The organisation expressed solidarity with the victim and her family and appreciated her courage in lodging an FIR despite the alleged mental and physical trauma. CRYO demanded that the accused be booked under stringent provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), calling for a speedy investigation and exemplary punishment in accordance with the law.
It also urged the district administration and the High School Area Private Taxi Union to ensure strict driver verification and introduce safety measures in taxis.
Warning that it would not remain a silent spectator, CRYO said it and other Nerhema village frontal organisations would be compelled to launch democratic agitation if justice was delayed or denied. The organisation appealed to civil society organisations, student bodies, women’s organisations and citizens across Nagaland to condemn the alleged incident and raise their voices for justice.
