Abu Dhabi – The UAE government’s National Cyber Security Council affirmed the continuation of national efforts to monitor and counter cyber threats, amid an increasing frequency of attacks targeting several vital sectors, most notably the energy and education sectors, coinciding with the rapid evolution of cyberattack methods globally.
The Council explained on Tuesday that the national cyber security system has successfully detected and thwarted nearly 750,000 cyberattack attempts in the past period. These included remote code execution attempts, distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks, phishing attempts, AI-powered cyberattacks, and other sophisticated cyber threat types.
The Council noted that monitoring and countermeasures are conducted within an integrated national system that relies on continuous monitoring, early detection, advanced analysis, and proactive response, in coordination with relevant national entities. This system enhances the protection of digital infrastructure and raises the level of cyber readiness and resilience of vital sectors.
The Council affirmed that the increased number of detected cyberattack attempts does not necessarily indicate successful breaches, but rather reflects the efficiency of national capabilities in detecting, addressing, and mitigating threats, thereby contributing to the continuity of digital services.
It emphasized that the UAE continues to develop its national cybersecurity capabilities by employing advanced technologies and artificial intelligence, and by strengthening integration and cooperation among relevant entities. This contributes to enhancing the efficiency of the cyber defense system and keeping pace with evolving threats.
The Council stressed that protecting digital infrastructure and vital sectors is a national priority, and that proactive and ongoing efforts reflect the UAE's commitment to strengthening its cybersecurity and supporting the stability and sustainability of essential services.
