PUTRAJAYA: The terms of reference for a special task force investigating alleged corporate mafia activities will be tabled at next week's cabinet meeting.
Government spokesman Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim informed the cabinet of the matter at today's meeting.
"The prime minister also announced that the findings would be made public within three months of the investigation being completed, as stated in Parliament during Prime Minister's Question Time last Tuesday," he said at a press conference.
Anwar had told the Dewan Rakyat that a special task force led by the Attorney-General had been formed to coordinate investigations involving all relevant enforcement agencies.
He said Bukit Aman's anti-money laundering crime investigation team had frozen RM4.3 billion and seized RM1 billion in a series of investigations into alleged corporate mafia activities between late 2022 and September this year.
The team had also forfeited RM48.3 million and imposed compounds totalling RM1.1 billion in connection with the cases during the period.
The allegations came to prominence following a Bloomberg report in February accusing the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) of allegedly helping a group of businessmen take control of publicly listed companies.
MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki and the commission have denied the allegations.
Bloomberg also reported that Azam held 17.7 million shares in Velocity Capital, citing a filing with the Companies Commission of Malaysia. The shareholding was disclosed in the company's annual return and was valued at about RM800,000 based on its share price.
Azam has maintained that his stake in the financial services company was declared and above board.
