Tyrese Maxey is widely regarded as one of the fastest players in the NBA, but LeBron James thinks he has played with someone similar.
The Philadelphia 76ers kicked off their new season with a 106-100 win against the New York Knicks, and all of their key stars played their part.
Maxey scored 28 points and was one of the standout performers. Everyone was raving about him and his speed, but this is no surprise to James.
LeBron James says Dennis Schröder was as fast as Tyrese Maxey
Dennis Schröder played over 80 regular-season games with James during their time together at the Los Angeles Lakers.
The German isn’t usually the first name that springs to mind when you’re talking about the best players in the NBA, but he seems to have left a positive impression on The King.
While all the talk is about Maxey and his frightening speed after the 76ers’ opening night win at Madison Square Garden, James was asked if he had seen anyone as fast as his new teammate.
The veteran replied, as per ESPN’s Kris Rhim on X: “Dennis Schröder. Dennis Schröder is d*** fast too with the ball and defensively is d*** good too.”
Schröder’s official top speed is not available to verify, but if James thinks he’s just as fast as Maxey, he probably is.
In the 2025/26 season, the 76ers guard recorded the highest average speed on offence. He never seems to tire either, despite his blistering speed, which is something else that has earned a lot of praise.
While speaking to NBC’s John Clark on X about what has impressed him about Maxey, James replied after the game: “His stamina. It doesn’t seem like he gets tired. He’s one of the fastest guys in the league, if not the fastest with and without the ball.”
James further claimed that Maxey’s speed and his ability to consistently maintain that all game will be key for the 76ers this season.
