In a post on X on the occasion of Maha Navami, Sarma linked the festival’s message of accomplishment with the efforts of women who are building livelihoods and supporting their families through small businesses.
The scheme aims to help eligible women members of self-help groups become “Lakhpati Baideus” by earning at least Rs 1 lakh annually.
Under the initiative, beneficiaries receive Rs 10,000 as seed capital in the first year to start or expand their businesses. Women who use the funds effectively can receive further financial assistance in subsequent years, with Rs 25,000 provided in the second year and Rs 50,000 in the third year, according to the Chief Minister’s post.
Sarma said women across Assam were taking up various income-generating activities, including running bakeries, food processing units, fish farming and vegetable cultivation.
He added that these enterprises were not only helping women improve their financial condition but also generating employment and creating opportunities for others in their communities.
Referring to Maa Siddhidatri, worshipped during the final days of Navratri, the Chief Minister said women were achieving success through determination, hard work and self-confidence.
Sarma concluded his message by wishing women success in their entrepreneurial efforts and invoking the blessings of Maa Siddhidatri.
