Pi Network has put a new app count at the center of its first ecosystem summit. More than 300 Mainnet apps are reported alongside a claimed audience of over 60 million engaged Pioneers, 18.1 million people who passed identity checks, and more than 420,000 nodes. None of those figures measures repeat use of an app or the value of goods and services paid for with PI. The summit provides a fresh reason to examine what a Mainnet app is and what its public record can show.
Summary
- Pi announced a November 17 to 19 online ecosystem summit in an October 15 post.
- The project reported over 300 Mainnet apps, but supplied no app-by-app active user count.
- Pi cited more than 18.1 million fully KYC verified users and 420,000 nodes in the same announcement.
- Four App Studio creations were invited toward Mainnet payment integration in March 2026.
- Pi’s developer rules leave the 300 app total distinct from listings in its curated browser directory.
Pi Network has said more than 300 Mainnet applications exist as it prepares a November developer summit, adding a new published count to its claims about the size of its ecosystem.
In an October 15 announcement, the project scheduled its first Pi Ecosystem Summit for November 17 to 19. It said the online event would include platform releases, developer demos, partner and app showcases, and details of another hackathon. Its statement gave the 300-app total but did not provide a directory of all counted apps, usage by app, paying users or transaction value attributable to them.
The summit puts a count on the app layer
Pi’s statement describes an existing distribution network with more than 60 million engaged Pioneers, authentication, payments and app discovery. It separately cites more than 18.1 million fully KYC verified users and more than 420,000 nodes. Those measures have different units. A node is an infrastructure participant, a verified user is a person who passed a stated process, and a Mainnet app is software associated with the live network. None of the three is automatically a paying customer of one of the other two.
The announcement offers a timely audit target. A count of more than 300 is large enough to examine categories, but the public statement does not supply a timestamped inventory and a consistent definition for inclusion. Apps could accept PI payments, use authentication without payments, provide information, host a game, or connect to developer tooling. A current app directory could display only a selected subset. To report the 300 as 300 active businesses would add facts the project did not claim.
This is distinct from the network’s recent protocol schedule. A feature on Protocol 28 examined node readiness before the planned October 16 Mainnet activation. It named contract upgrades and transaction-data handling as technical changes. The new summit announcement is about the application inventory and what developers have built. A successful node upgrade does not establish that a listed application has paying customers.
It is also different from the KYC funnel. A prior analysis of Pi’s verification backlog separated users cleared to progress from wallets that actually spent PI. The app count adds another stage: there must be software available, reachable and worth returning to. Clearing an identity bottleneck and adding an application are both observable events. A transaction by an active user is a third event, requiring a separate record.
The summit program could improve the evidence. Pi promises demonstrations of specific developer tools and partner applications. A demonstration can show that a feature runs, while repeat payments over weeks would show continuing use. The announcement does not commit to publishing app-level retention or merchant receipts during the event. An app inventory and reproducible payment examples would let readers assess the count before any subsequent promotional total.
Mainnet deployment and directory listing are separate gates
Pi’s developer launch guide describes how a creator moves from Testnet to Mainnet. The developer creates a separate Mainnet app in the portal, verifies its URL, connects an app wallet and completes a checklist. An incoming multisignature wallet for user-to-app payments requires an application and review. App-to-user payments are available only for Testnet apps and selected Mainnet apps under the guide’s current wording. A developer’s decision to create a Mainnet entry therefore does not mean every possible payment path is live.
The directory listing rules impose another gate. To appear in Pi Browser’s curated Mainnet Ecosystem Interface, an application is expected to be functional, integrate Pi authentication, meet identity requirements for its developer and follow policies on transactions and user experience. An app can exist on Mainnet without being accepted into that curated listing. Pi’s own earlier update on added apps says the list does not include every Mainnet or Mainnet-ready app and that third-party directories may show more.
That difference supplies a direct way to test the summit number. If Pi says over 300 Mainnet apps, does it mean portal entries with a live Mainnet configuration, applications with approved wallets, applications listed in the browser, or a broader set including self-hosted services? The October announcement does not say. A reporter cannot substitute the browser’s visible count for the project’s figure without first showing that both apply the same inclusion rule.
The distinction is not an accusation that the figure is false. Product directories often curate a smaller set than the total universe of deployed software. Pi explicitly describes that practice. The reporting issue is reproducibility. A dated list with app identifiers, status and payment capabilities would let an independent reader replicate the total. Without it, the count remains a company-reported figure, useful as a claim about scale but weak as a measure of ongoing use.
An app could satisfy quality and policy requirements yet see little traffic. Conversely, an unlisted independent app could attract users. Directory inclusion is a screening decision; traffic and transactions are behavioral records. Pi’s directory staking feature adds another complication: Pioneers and businesses can stake PI to improve an app’s position in the Ecosystem Interface. Pi said the stake can raise exposure and impressions, with potential user traffic. A higher directory ranking is partly a function of staked promotion and cannot alone verify organic demand.
The staking announcement identifies Mainnet apps, App Studio apps and services such as centralized exchanges among the directory’s categories. This mixture means an analyst must filter the interface before treating every tile as a Mainnet application. It also makes comparison across categories difficult: an exchange link, a creator experiment and an app with an approved Mainnet wallet may be displayed near one another while serving different purposes.
Payment capability is a narrower measure than app existence
Pi added App Studio support for Mainnet applications and live in-app payments in March. Its Pi Day statement said four App Studio apps had been invited to transition to Mainnet and integrate real PI payments. The same release explained persistent payment interactions, which can leave a purchased feature active beyond a single session. Four is a count of invited App Studio apps at that time, not the total number of Mainnet apps across the network.
An earlier January App Studio update described test token payment integration. It let creators experiment without moving real PI between users and applications. Comparing a test payment prototype with a completed Mainnet purchase would confuse simulated and economically meaningful activity. By October, App Studio tooling had expanded, but the summit announcement did not report the number of real payments made through its products.
The Mainnet payment path is observable in principle. A user authorizes a transfer, the app processes the callback, and a ledger records the settled PI transaction. The public chain can reveal a payment to a known wallet, but a wallet address on its own may belong to a developer, exchange, internal test or ordinary user. To measure consumer demand, the app operator would need to identify its production receiving address and disclose enough about its service to distinguish sales from self-transfers, incentives or repeated movement of the same coins.
A fee or payment count can mislead in either direction. One app might earn a few large merchant orders, while another runs thousands of tiny paid actions. Gross PI transferred is not net revenue if users receive refunds or rewards. An app with subscriptions could have strong retention and fewer individual transfers. Repeat paying wallets, distinct buyers, completed purchases and the period measured would make the comparison stronger. The project did not publish these four fields for its 300-plus apps in the summit release.
Pi’s payment library promises a quick integration for developers using supported web stacks. Its January developer guide described a way to add payment functionality in under ten minutes. Integrating the code is a technical milestone, not evidence that customers subsequently bought a service. The distinction is visible in many payment networks: accepting an instrument and generating commerce are different outcomes.
Some applications may be valuable without charging PI. A utility can use Pi authentication to serve verified users, provide information or connect Pioneers to outside activity. The summit could reasonably showcase such software. It would be inaccurate to treat the absence of a payment in each app as proof the app has no users. The correct metric must match the product: repeated sessions for a free tool, completed orders for a merchant, active deployments for a developer service, or paid conversions for an app whose business model requires them.
An audit must keep four denominators apart
The published figures can be placed in a simple measurement table without dividing unlike quantities. Pi’s more than 60 million engaged Pioneers describes the broadest audience it claims. Its more than 18.1 million verified users describe people passing KYC. Its over 300 Mainnet apps describes software. Its more than 420,000 nodes describes network infrastructure. A valid adoption ratio would require the number of distinct users of a specified app over a defined period, divided by a clearly defined eligible population. Pi did not provide that numerator in the announcement.
Dividing 18.1 million verified people by 300 apps would give roughly 60,333 people per app under the artificial assumption of an even allocation. The arithmetic uses the project’s rounded minimums and is not a measure of any application’s audience. The same person can use multiple apps or none, and an app can attract a group far smaller than the theoretical average. Reporting the quotient as “users per app” would be a numerical error, not original analysis. The meaningful finding is that no published bridge connects the reported user pool to app activity.
A better method would request a dated export of the 300-plus app inventory and label each entry by stage. For each, record whether it has a working URL, Pi authentication, Mainnet wallet approval, a disclosed payment address, completed PI payments during a specified window, and a measure of distinct repeat users. Operators might decline to disclose private customer information; aggregate counts and public transactions could still allow useful verification. The exercise would expose the gap between possible reach and actual service use without assuming all apps are identical.
The inventory should mark whether the app is curated in Pi Browser or self-hosted through SoloHost. Pi says SoloHost lets developers release self-hosted AI apps, and its October announcement groups that product with its developer platform. A service running on a node can be an application in the ordinary software sense without being a web app with a Mainnet payment wallet. Combining those categories may be defensible if Pi says how it counts them. Until then, an independent audit should preserve their separate statuses.
Pi’s directory rules offer another check. They require Pi-only transactions for apps seeking the relevant Mainnet listing, while the project has separately discussed a potential stablecoin role elsewhere in its ecosystem. The OUSD feature documented that no launched payment integration or token demand mechanism had been specified. A future change in app listing rules or a narrow exception would need a dated policy update. The summit announcement itself does not revise the current directory page or make OUSD an existing app payment method.
Five listed apps show what the headline count conceals
An earlier Pi update offers a small, named example of how the project selects applications. It announced five additions to the Mainnet Ecosystem Interface, including a snake game, e-commerce applications and information services about the PI token. Pi said those five passed checks for quality, complete functions, utility and policy compliance. The example proves that the curated directory can admit different kinds of software. It does not reveal how often each was opened or how much anyone spent in them.
Classifying the five by their stated function is more useful than treating their inclusion as one economic outcome. A game can record frequent sessions but few payments. An information site can be read without any token transfer. A commerce app might show gross orders, refunded orders, merchant receipts and repeat buyers. Even within the small group, there is no single metric that turns the count of five into demand for PI. The example shows why the larger 300-plus inventory needs app types before an aggregate usage number can be interpreted.
Pi explicitly warned in that update that its Mainnet listing omitted many third-party apps. A rejected or unsubmitted app is not necessarily unusable. The project distinguishes directory selection from broader availability, and outside directories can show more candidates. An independent snapshot of the browser could therefore establish the count of visible tiles on a date, but cannot confirm the total number of live applications. Reconciling the two would require the developer portal inventory or a published methodology from Pi.
The question of what qualifies as Mainnet-ready complicates an audit further. A developer can prepare a wallet and URL while waiting for approval of incoming payments; an application may run a service that does not require payments at all. The project could count a functioning Mainnet configuration before a curator lists it. A status field for payment approvals, last successful access and production deployment would make these distinctions visible without publishing customers’ private data. Pi has not supplied that field-by-field table with its October summit release.
There is a useful timeline in the official material. January’s App Studio release began with Test-Pi payment interactions. March’s update invited four selected creations toward Mainnet payment capability. Later developer documentation expanded what builders could do with local storage, file sharing and app-specific staking data. The October summit announcement presents more than 300 Mainnet apps. The endpoints describe different populations, so subtracting four from 300 would not calculate the number of new paid applications. A clean timeline preserves what each figure counted at the time it was published.
Earlier coverage of Pi’s first open-network year described App Studio among the project’s major public products. The October claim concerns a later inventory. Any comparison to the first year must use the same app definition and avoid importing an older KYC or migration total into the present. A retrospect can establish when a feature appeared; it does not fill the missing October active-user series.
The best argument for Pi is about a ready audience
Pi has assembled identity checks, wallets, a browser-based discovery path, app payment tools and a large claimed participant base. A developer who builds a useful product can potentially distribute it through existing channels instead of acquiring every user independently. More than 300 reported Mainnet apps may mean that many teams have already done the work of preparing live-network software. The summit promises to show their products and release additional tooling. None of those facts should be erased merely because public retention figures are absent.
The skeptical case is equally concrete. Distribution does not force a user to return to an app. KYC verifies an account holder’s identity under the project’s process; it does not show that person has discretionary PI, needs a given product, or completes a purchase. Directory rankings can reflect staking for promotion. App creation tools can raise counts of experiments more quickly than counts of businesses with repeat customers. These are reasons to request usage records, not reasons to assume the apps have failed.
Earlier coverage of App Studio economics examined costs faced by creators and pointed out that hackathon submissions are not the same as active products. The current summit introduces another hackathon and more developer features. A count of submissions after the event would measure participation in that contest. The share later reaching Mainnet, staying online and receiving repeat users would measure a more demanding outcome.
An operator could make the positive case measurable by publishing a cohort report. Identify apps listed before a chosen date, then disclose how many still function 30 and 90 days later and how many have distinct users who return or pay. A comparable report a quarter later would reveal whether new developer tools help applications retain users, not merely launch. Pi has not promised such a report for November. The absence of a promise should be stated plainly, without converting a reporting request into an announced deliverable.
There are practical limits to independent observation. Pi Browser can require an account, KYC or app permissions. Wallet labels are not always public. A block explorer may show transactions without showing why they occurred. An outside reporter can verify named apps, public contracts and example transactions, but cannot infer every private user session from a chain. A complete audit may therefore remain partly dependent on developer and project disclosures. The most important separation is between what was independently reproduced and what Pi or an app team reported.
One possible audit sample could start with the five applications the project itself named in its earlier update. A reporter would record whether each URL loads now, whether login works, whether the offered function can be completed and whether a payment is requested. A second pass after 30 days would check whether the same functions still operate. That would be a direct test of availability for five named apps, not an estimate for all 300. Expanding the sample requires a complete sampling frame, which the summit post does not supply.
For an app claiming sales, the operator could disclose a wallet address and a period during which it was used exclusively for production receipts. A reporter could then calculate distinct senders and total PI received from the ledger, while stating that exchange deposits, developer transfers and refunds may still distort those counts. A bank or exchange transfer cannot be assigned to a customer purchase without further evidence. For a free service, the operator might disclose privacy-preserving active user and retention aggregates. Different methods, honestly labeled, are preferable to a single unsupported “adoption” score.
The app’s business model also determines whether PI is involved at all. Pi’s developer tooling offers login, discovery and payments as separable capabilities. A creator can use the first two without the third. The claim “more than 300 apps” could be entirely accurate while only a subset has a payment wallet approved for real transfers. Pi’s March invitation to four App Studio creations demonstrates a narrower approval path for one category, but says nothing conclusive about how many independently coded apps accept payments today.
November can reveal products, but not years of retention
The November 17 to 19 event is scheduled as an online summit, not a date on which every announced feature is guaranteed to enter production. Pi says it will provide platform updates, developer demonstrations, partner and app showcases, and more information on a hackathon. A presentation may demonstrate a tool working in a controlled setting. A deployed tool and an app using it with customers are later, separately checkable stages.
If a named app publishes a production wallet address and shows a transaction that a reader can reproduce, the article can establish a particular capability. If it releases a month of distinct paying-wallet data with refunds and tests excluded, the article can discuss usage. If it offers only a video demonstration, the article should call it a demo. These classifications are ordinary product reporting, not a special standard imposed on Pi.
The project’s announcement does not report a common launch date for the more than 300 applications, their uptime or the share accepting PI payments. It does name the summit dates and the subjects it intends to cover. The next published agenda and the specific apps selected for demonstrations are the immediate documents that can narrow the gap between the 300-app claim and observable use.
What to watch
- App inventory: A dated Pi list defining which applications make up the reported total of more than 300.
- Production status: Named apps with working Mainnet URLs, approved wallets and reproducible live transactions.
- Repeat use: Developer or network disclosures of distinct returning users over a specified 30 or 90 day period.
- Payments: Completed PI purchases separated from Testnet actions, incentives, refunds and internal transfers.
- Summit releases: The November 17 to 19 agenda, deployed tools and hackathon rules, each with a dated status.
FAQ
When is Pi Network’s ecosystem summit?
Pi scheduled its first online Ecosystem Summit for November 17 to 19, 2026. It says the event will include developer demos, platform announcements, app showcases and details of a new hackathon. It had not published a complete agenda in its October 15 announcement.
How many Mainnet apps did Pi report?
The October 15 statement says there are more than 300 Mainnet apps. It does not list every counted app or give an app-by-app active user total. The figure is a project-reported inventory measure.
Are all Mainnet apps listed in Pi Browser?
Pi’s documentation says its Ecosystem Interface is curated and can omit Mainnet and Mainnet-ready applications. An app’s Mainnet configuration and its acceptance into the directory are different statuses. A browser count may therefore differ from the project’s total.
Do 300 apps mean 300 businesses earn PI?
No revenue total accompanies the announcement. Applications can serve different purposes, and payment integration does not show that customers have paid. A count of completed purchases and repeat paying users would address that question.
How many Pi users have completed KYC?
Pi reported more than 18.1 million fully KYC verified users in the summit announcement. It separately claimed more than 60 million engaged Pioneers. Neither count establishes how many people used one of the Mainnet apps during October.
Can App Studio applications receive real PI?
Pi announced Mainnet support for selected App Studio apps in March and said four were invited to transition and integrate live payments. Earlier App Studio payment experiments used Test-Pi. The March count is not the total number of Mainnet apps in October.
Does a higher directory ranking prove an app is popular?
No. Pi says users and businesses can stake PI to improve an application’s position and exposure in the directory. Ranking may generate visits, but it is not a published count of active or paying users. A repeat-use measure would answer a different question.
What evidence would show an app is being used?
A named production app, verifiable transactions where relevant, and dated distinct-user or repeat-purchase data would establish specific activity. Free utilities may require retention measures instead of payment totals. This is educational analysis, not investment advice.
