Afro-pop singer Nonny Muji is speaking her truth. The 28-year-old Lo Bhuti hitmaker from Eshowe in KwaZulu-Natal has opened up about how negative social media commentary has slowed down her healing after the breakdown of her marriage to Maverick Muji.
Nonny, whose real name is Nonkonzo Shandu and who now goes by the surname Mthiya on her social media profiles, announced in June 2026 that she had walked away from the marriage after discovering that Maverick had allegedly been unfaithful. She said the discovery led to a physical confrontation before she made the final decision to leave.
Women's comments stung the most
While the singer acknowledged that she had received plenty of supportive messages, she was candid about how certain remarks had reopened wounds she was trying to close. What hurt her most was that some of the harshest comments came from other women, a group she had hoped would show more understanding given the circumstances.
One comment in particular hit a nerve. A woman responded to a workout photo Nonny had shared by suggesting her body had not been the issue since her husband had cheated on her regardless. Nonny described the remark as cruel and said she had blocked several women whose comments she felt were doing her more harm than good.
Maverick, for his part, released a press statement in which he did not deny the cheating allegations but did offer an apology, confirming that Nonny had left the marriage.
Album launch gives Nonny something to celebrate
She told Daily Sun that despite everything, the pair have maintained a working relationship. They recently announced a collaborative track titled Ababili, showing that their personal split has not erased their musical bond.
On her own, Nonny is pushing forward with a significant career milestone: the launch of her debut album, 11:11 The Rebirth, set for 10 November 2026 at Lougardia in Centurion. The event will mark the first time she has produced and hosted a show entirely on her own terms, making it a personally meaningful step.
Tickets, priced at R200, were already on sale through Boxer, Pick n Pay and Webtickets at the time of writing. Nonny described the launch as a bright spot she is holding onto amid the emotional weight of her current circumstances.

The media personality also addressed rumours that she has been financially supporting her ex-husband through spousal maintenance.
