Travis Kelce is still making plays for the Kansas City Chiefs, but the NFL star has already begun exploring what life could look like when his football career ends. Acting, podcasting and business ventures have given him several possible paths beyond the field.
Kelce has not announced a retirement date. However, his comments about Hollywood and his growing media portfolio offer a clearer picture of his interests. His challenge will be deciding how to pursue those opportunities without losing sight of the game he still loves.
Kelce has already considered what comes next
Kelce discussed his future in an August 2025 GQ profile, acknowledging that he had started thinking about life after football. He did not provide a retirement timeline, instead describing a process of exploring possibilities and learning what fits.
The tight end has built a career that extends well beyond the stadium. His public profile includes entertainment appearances, business interests and a successful podcast, giving him options that many athletes only begin considering after retirement.
His immediate priority, however, remains football. The Chiefs’ official roster lists him as an active player for the 2026 season, making it clear that post-NFL plans should not be mistaken for an announcement that he is finished playing.
Acting is one opportunity he wants to pursue
Kelce has already tested Hollywood through appearances in scripted television and film. He played Ed Laclan in FX’s Grotesquerie and appeared as a hotel waiter in Happy Gilmore 2, gaining experience in front of cameras outside live sports.
During a December 2025 episode of New Heights, actor George Clooney asked Kelce whether he planned to pursue more acting after retiring. Kelce said he would readily accept opportunities from childhood hero Adam Sandler, according to People.
Kelce was candid about being a newcomer to the profession. He said he was unsure how much acting ability he possessed, but promised to be a good teammate and enjoy the work if invited onto a set. His enthusiasm was clear, even without a firm career plan.
His experience with Adam Sandler made an impression
Kelce’s role in Happy Gilmore 2 gave him the chance to work with Sandler, whose films he enjoyed growing up. On New Heights, he expressed gratitude for being included, describing the experience as an opportunity he appreciated.
The appearance was brief, but it gave Kelce a practical introduction to a professional film set. Acting requires different preparation from football, and the experience offered a glimpse of the teamwork and timing needed to make a scene work.
He has not announced a slate of upcoming films or a full-time move into Hollywood. For now, his remarks suggest he is open to acting when the right opportunity arises, rather than treating it as a guaranteed second career.
New Heights gives him a media platform
Kelce’s podcast, New Heights, is another major part of his life outside football. He co-hosts the show with his older brother, Jason Kelce, the retired Philadelphia Eagles center, discussing football, pop culture and personal experiences with a broad audience.
The brothers’ conversations have attracted high-profile guests and expanded beyond game analysis. That format gives Travis a way to keep connecting with fans even after his playing career ends, while allowing him to develop skills in interviewing and entertainment.
The podcast also represents an established media project rather than a speculative idea. GQ reported in August 2025 that the brothers had signed a deal with Wondery, giving the show a substantial foundation as Kelce considers what he might do next.
Business interests could shape his next chapter
Kelce has also discussed business investments and partnerships. In his GQ profile, he mentioned investments in car washes in Missouri and said he enjoys the collaborative side of business, suggesting that working with other people could remain part of his future.
Those interests do not mean he has announced plans to become a full-time entrepreneur. Instead, they show that he has explored opportunities beyond sports and entertainment, giving him more than one potential direction once the demands of an NFL season are behind him.
His existing ventures may also offer flexibility. Unlike jobs tied to a weekly broadcast schedule or a film production, investments can vary in the daily involvement they require. Kelce has not publicly laid out how he would manage them after football.
He knows the moments on the field will be hard to replace
In March 2026, Kelce spoke on New Heights about what he would miss if he retired. He singled out the pressure and excitement of major games, especially the responsibility of performing for teammates and a stadium full of fans.
The comments showed that his future is not simply about finding another source of attention. The competition, shared purpose and intensity of postseason football have been central to his career, and Kelce acknowledged that those experiences would be difficult to recreate elsewhere.
His perspective also helps explain why a transition may take time. Even with entertainment and business options available, retirement would mean leaving a unique working environment and the relationships built over years of playing for Kansas City.
Kelce’s football legacy gives him a strong starting point
Kelce entered the NFL in 2013 after the Chiefs selected him in the third round of the draft. Over the years, he developed into one of the league’s most productive tight ends and became a central part of Kansas City’s championship era.
That legacy gives Kelce a recognizable name in sports and entertainment, but it does not determine which path he will choose. His own comments point toward experimentation and collaboration rather than a single job waiting at the end of his playing career.
Fun fact: Kelce entered the 2026 season with a reception in 191 consecutive regular-season games, already the longest streak in Chiefs history. He caught at least 2 passes in each of Kansas City’s first 4 games of 2026, extending the streak to 195 games through Oct. 4.
Retirement remains undecided as his options grow
Kelce’s public comments reveal interest in acting, a continuing role in podcasting and business opportunities, but they do not confirm when he will leave the NFL. His active place on the Chiefs’ 2026 roster reinforces that distinction.
The most realistic picture is of an athlete building options before making a final decision. His experience in film and television has introduced him to a different industry, while New Heights gives him an established platform outside the game.
For now, Kelce’s next chapter remains open. He has shown willingness to explore entertainment and business, but the timing and shape of his eventual retirement have not been confirmed. His post-football life may take several directions rather than follow a single plan.
