The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) plans to make tax monitoring systems operational across 18 sectors by December 31, 2026, as the government steps up efforts to improve tax collection and curb tax evasion.
A meeting on FBR reforms, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday, was informed that monitoring systems have already been installed in the sugar, cement, tobacco, tiles and fertilizer sectors. Installation work is underway in textiles, packaged water, packaged juice and packaged milk, with equipment purchases completed for these sectors.
The government plans to purchase equipment for the steel, poultry and tire sectors by October 15. Procurement for tea, domestic electronics, leather, paper and board, and oil and ghee is scheduled to be completed by October 30. The systems are expected to become fully operational across all 18 sectors by the end of December.
The meeting also reviewed progress on FBR reforms and the readiness of monitoring systems across key productive sectors. According to the briefing, government enforcement measures generated an additional Rs1.3 trillion in tax revenue over the past three years, representing a 40% increase in collections.
The initiative aims to strengthen tax monitoring, improve compliance and bring greater transparency to production and commercial activities across the targeted sectors.
