Czech photographer Jaroslav Fous has won the top prize in the American Meteorological Society’s (AMS) photography competition with his image titled Diamond Dust Sky Eye.
The photograph captures an extraordinary combination of optical halo phenomena. It shows a snow-covered mountain landscape with a road beneath a night sky, where the Moon is surrounded by several luminous rings and arcs. Together, they create an image resembling a giant eye gazing down from the sky.
The photograph was taken in December 2024, in the Ore Mountains near Boží Dar in the Czech Republic.
