Bank Asia PLC has won the WSBI SDG Award 2026 for the second consecutive year, recognising its advancement of financial inclusion and contribution to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the "Excellence in Inclusive Banking & Social Impact" category.
Mohammad Ziaul Hasan Molla, additional managing director of Bank Asia, received the award from Peter Simon, chief executive officer of the World Savings and Retail Banking Institute (WSBI), at a ceremony in Bangkok, Thailand, on 15 October, 2026, according to the press release.
Professor Dr Ulrich Reuter, president of the German Savings Banks Association (DSGV) and vice-president of WSBI, and Nahid Imani, senior executive vice president and head of corporate and large loans at Bank Asia, were also present.
During the Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group, WSBI and the European Savings and Retail Banking Group (ESBG) organised the second WSBI-ESBG SDG Awards Ceremony.
The initiative recognises member institutions for their contributions to economic prosperity, social and financial inclusion, and environmental responsibility in line with the United Nations' 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Bank Asia participated in the WSBI-ESBG SDG Data Survey and SDG Awards initiatives, highlighting financial institutions' contributions to sustainability, financial inclusion and social transformation.
The bank said the recognition reaffirmed its commitment to improving lives and supporting communities through sustainable, inclusive and socially responsible banking practices.
The latest award follows Bank Asia's recognition at the WSBI SDG Awards 2025 in Washington, DC. The bank said the consecutive awards reflected its sustained efforts to expand financial inclusion, empower underserved communities and promote sustainable development.
