Isoka Member of Parliament Jairo Simbeye has called on public service workers to remain committed to their duties and improve service delivery in order to accelerate national development in line with the Government’s Grow Zambia Agenda.
Mr Simbeye said public service workers had a critical role to play in advancing the country’s development aspirations by ensuring that government policies and programmes translated into tangible benefits for citizens.
Speaking in a telephone interview with the media, Mr Simbeye said the 2026 Independence Day theme, “Zambia@62: Our Journey, Our Growth, Our Future”, should inspire public service workers to reflect on their contribution to national development and renew their commitment to serving the people.
“Public service workers have a very important role to play in the development of our country. As we celebrate 62 years of independence, we must all reflect on the contribution we are making towards building a better Zambia,” he said.
Mr Simbeye said the country’s development journey required collective responsibility, hard work and dedication from all citizens, particularly those entrusted with delivering essential public services.
“We cannot talk about growth and development when we do not take our responsibilities seriously. Every public service worker must be committed to their duties and ensure that the people receive the services they deserve,” he said.
He said public service workers should demonstrate professionalism, accountability and efficiency in the execution of their duties to ensure that government resources and development programmes achieved their intended objectives.
“The Grow Zambia Agenda calls for all of us to contribute to national development. Public service workers must therefore work hard, be accountable and ensure that government programmes benefit the intended people,” Mr Simbeye said.
He noted that improved service delivery was essential to promoting economic growth, strengthening public institutions and improving the livelihoods of citizens.
Mr Simbeye further urged public service workers to embrace teamwork and innovation, stating that every sector had a responsibility to contribute to the country’s growth and development.
“As we look at our journey, our growth and our future, we must understand that the future of this country depends on what we do today. Everyone has a responsibility to contribute to the development of Zambia,” he said.
Mr Simbeye said the Independence Day commemoration provided an opportunity for citizens to appreciate Zambia’s development journey while reflecting on their collective responsibility to build a better future for generations to come.
He urged public service workers to remain focused on their responsibilities and support initiatives aimed at advancing national development in line with the aspirations of the Grow Zambia Agenda.
“Let us all play our part in building a productive and prosperous Zambia. The responsibility of developing this country does not rest on Government alone; every citizen, regardless of their position, has a role to play,” he said.
