The discourse around LeBron James’ actions during the national anthem before Tuesday night’s game at Madison Square Garden is showing no signs of slowing down on Thursday.
Video captured by Alex Day showed James swinging his arms as if practicing a golf swing as he lined up with his Philadelphia 76ers teammates for “The Star-Spangled Banner.” James also pantomimed his jump shot form during the song.
Sport & State’s Clay Travis called James out on X this morning, calling the 41-year-old superstar was “toxic” and saying he can’t wait until James retires. Travis didn’t stop there either, taking another shot at James and his relationship with China.
“Zero percent chance LeBron would practice a golf swing during China’s national anthem. 0%,” Travis tweeted Thursday afternoon.
Not Clay’s first go at the King
Travis, no stranger to the sports culture wars, has been ripping James for refusing to speak up about human rights violations in China for several years.
It probably won’t be the last time he criticizes James on this topic either, though the longtime sports media personality is far from the most prominent person to weigh in on this topic today.
President Trump blasts LeBron: ‘total disgrace’
There is no love lost between President Donald Trump and LeBron, as both men have made it clear they don’t care for the other. Trump ripped James in a Truth Social post earlier today.
“While listening to our National Anthem, LeBron James disrespects our Country!” Trump wrote.
“I said right from the beginning that he’s no good, a TOTAL DISGRACE. LeBron James should apologize to all of those Great American Warriors and Heroes who died for the American Flag, and all that our Country stands for!”
The 76ers play later tonight, against the Cleveland Cavaliers at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN. We’re sure James will be asked postgame about Trump’s remarks.
