Jets head coach Aaron Glenn delivered injury updates to a few key players ahead of Wednesday's practice
Mitchell's procedure
Adonai Mitchell has missed the last three weeks due to a finger injury and Glenn revealed that the young receiver underwent a procedure to fix it.
"He did have a small procedure on his hand," Glenn said of Mitchell. "The good thing is he’s moving his fingers around really well. Still going to put him on a week-to-week deal."
Glenn said that they wanted to wait a week or so to see how far along Mitchell progressed without surgery, but ultimately they all decided they wanted to get it "knocked out."
Mitchell, 24, had a promising start to his first full season with Gang Green. After catching three passes for 60 yards in the team's Week 1 win over the Titans, he came down with six passes for 63 yards in their Week 2 loss to the Packers.
Cooper returns to practice
Jets rookie wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. was designated to return from injured reserve Wednesday after missing the last four weeks due to an ankle injury. The Jets have a 21-day practice window before deciding whether to activate Cooper.
Glenn was excited to get the Indiana product back on the field.
“Feels really, really good. More than anything, of a rookie getting the chance to come back and get these reps that he’s missing," Glenn said. "Obviously, he's a good player, but you never want any rookie to miss time. The reps are valuable for these guys.”
Cooper, who was picked 30th overall in the 2026 draft, caught one pass for 30 yards in Week 1 before being injured. While his status for Gang Green's Week 6 matchup with the Patriots is not yet known, having the first-round pick back could be a boon for the Jets offense.
Other injury updates
The second-year head coach provided a few more updates to key players. He said that Breece Hall (quad), Joseph Ossai (ankle) and Dylan Parham (knee) are still considered week-to-week.
Talented rookie tight end Kenyon Sadiq is still in the concussion protocol and is limited in practice. Glenn did say, “I like where he’s at" when talking about Sadiq's progress.
Sadiq suffered a concussion in the team's Week 5 win over the Browns, but the first-round pick has been a solid piece to the Jets offense. He's made 14 receptions for 146 yards and one touchdown so far this season.
