If you were looking for a sign of the end times we have just two words for you: Glee reboot.
That’s right. After threatening to bring this six-season musical series back for a while, creator Ryan Murphy has finally followed through. The show will return to Disney Plus and Hulu in some form or another.
I know you’re asking yourself in a frenzy, how on earth could this have happened? Where did we go so wrong?
Well, what makes the official reboot all the more ominous is that we currently have no more information, so it truly is a russian roulette.
If you were somehow living under a rock between 2009 and 2015, then you may have missed the cultural juggernaut that is Glee, starring an ensemble cast who dealt with everything from coming out as gay to teen pregnancy through the medium of song and dance.
The original cast included Lea Michele, Matthew Morrison, Jane Lynch, Dianna Agron, Chris Colfer, Darren Criss, Amber Riley, Heather Morris, Kevin McHale, Jenna Ushkowitz, Harry Shum Jr as well as the late Cory Monteith and Naya Rivera, who played Finn Hudson and Santana Lopez, respectively.
The series is a cultural time capsule, both shocking with its daring and offensive humour whilst also pushing the envelope for representation on screen. It’s a myriad of contradictions that could have only existed in the early 2010s.

What a 2026 version of this show would look like, I dread to think.
If there’s one thing Glee fans seem to be united on, it’s that this has ‘bad idea’ written all over it.
‘I couldn’t see Glee being the same and would just tarnish the memory of what made us love Glee to begin with,’ Taylor swinub declared.
‘Ryan has made great stuff but also has had HARD misses so it would be a gamble to touch Glee again,’ Pixieplumm reflected.
‘I love Glee, but I don’t want a reboot or a remake. Leave it where it was. It was great in its primetime but don’t sour the memories and goodness of what was with a bland reboot,’ uwukviiilynn agreed.
Since Murphy teased a potential comeback, cast members have been asked about whether they would return. In fact, the showrunner himself has been in touch with ‘around 10 of the original cast members,’ as he told Entertainment Tonight.
He confirmed he had written a reboot script alongside Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan, adding: ‘It’s very sweet, and they all had a lot of questions, but they all were very enthusiastic about the idea.’
Michele, who has already lived out her character’s dreams of playing Fanny in Funny Girl in real life since the show ended, recently told E! News she ‘will follow Ryan wherever he goes’.
Meanwhile, Colfer, who recently reunited with his onscreen husband Criss (the pair were affectionately known as Klaine) at the Royal Albert Hall, was also asked about the show reboot and had a more hesitant approach.
‘It was a really tough show to do, and it would be really hard to do it now that Naya [Rivera] is gone. But I do know that Glee fans would probably come after me with pitchforks and jazz hands if I said no,’ he said to Bustle.
Shum Jr., who is currently competing on Dancing with the Stars said about a possible reboot that ‘right now we need as much joy as possible’ but also confirmed he ‘hadn’t heard anything’ from Murphy or otherwise.
There is currently no release date for the Glee reboot.
