Surabaya, East Java (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture has allocated Rp3 trillion (US$167.23 million) to establish an integrated poultry Grand Parent Stock breeding center in Malang, East Java, reinforcing national food security.
Speaking during a plenary session at the East Java Regional Legislative Council on Monday, Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman praised the province's key role as the country's primary agricultural hub.
"East Java is remarkable, it develops rapidly, especially in the agricultural sector. It leads national production of rice, corn, sugarcane, eggs, poultry, and dairy milk," Sulaiman said, noting that strong regional cooperation has been vital to sustaining output.
The planned Malang facility is designed to serve as the sole national supply hub for high-quality breeding stock.
"We will establish the only Grand Parent Stock facility in Indonesia, specifically in Malang, East Java. This center will supply poultry breeding stocks to various farms across the entire archipelago," the minister stated.
Beyond expanding livestock production, Sulaiman assured lawmakers that national staple food reserves remain secure at 4.5 million tons, with climate contingency measures in place to mitigate potential drought risks from El Niño.
