MACHANG: After years of carrying a damaged identity card that was barely legible, 70-year-old Minah Yacob was relieved to receive her new-generation MyKad.
The Pangkal Payong resident received the card from Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail during the Home Ministry's Kampung Angkat Madani and Sekolah Angkat Madani programmes at Sekolah Kebangsaan Jambu Lawar here today.
Handing Minah the card, Saifuddin said: "Congratulations. Here is your new identity card."
Minah said her old identity card had been damaged for several years and was almost falling apart, making the information on it difficult to read.
The mother of six, who earns a living making and selling kuih, said receiving the new card had brought her considerable relief.
"I am very happy and relieved to finally have a new MyKad.
"My old identity card had been badly damaged for years, and the information on it could hardly be read," she said.
The New Generation MyKad is a version of the national identity card introduced by the National Registration Department, with improvements to its design, security features and functions.
It was issued in phases beginning Sept 17
