An analyst has tipped Supreme Court Justice Senyo Dzamefe as the next Chief Justice of Ghana when Justice Paul Baffour-Bonnie retires.
In Nana Kwadwo Jantuah's view, Justice Dzamefe is the right, fair, and competent choice for Ghana's next Chief Justice.
In his analysis of who becomes the next Chief Justice, he said Ghana needs a Chief Justice who has experience, is honest, and has a clear plan to make the courts work better. Justice Senyo Dzamefe is that person.
"He is the longest-serving judge in Ghana today. He started from the Tribunal system from 1988 to 1992. He was chairman for Tema and Wa. This gives him good ideas on how to reduce pressure on our courts. He became High Court Judge in 2000 and worked in Sekondi, Swedru and Accra. - He was at the Court of Appeal for 15 years, from 2010 to 2025.- He was appointed to the Supreme Court in July 2025. He has worked at every level," Jantuah said.
He further noted that Dzamefe is indeondet and a good leader.
" He never worked as a lawyer for people before becoming a judge. So he has no ties to anyone. He will be fair to all. He has served on the Judicial Council for all levels except Supreme Court. He was President of the Judges Association for 3 years. He is now Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee of the General Legal Council. He chaired the Commission that looked into the Black Stars Brazil World Cup issue. Ghanaians respected him for that work
PLANS FOR THE FUTURE
Jantuah firther said that Dzamefe is judhe wo doesnt not condone delyas in trials.
"He wants cases to end fast - 3 months for criminal cases and 6 months for civil cases. - He wants to use virtual courts so justice will be faster. - He supports opening up legal education to more places. - He says judges should still retire at 70, not 75. Young people can also have good knowledge and experience. - His main goal is simple: Bring back trust in the courts. When you file your case, you go home and trust that the law will work. You don't need to see anyone for help. He also wants to care for court staff and bring discipline."
Aside all these attributes, he analysed that in 2023, after Justices Anin Yeboah and Jones Dotse retired, he was the most senior judge at the Supreme Court, but he was not made Chief Justice. Many people felt it was because he comes from the Volta Region. Making him Chief Justice now will correct that. He should not be chosen just because he is from Volta, but because he is the most qualified, most senior, and has all it takes to do the job well.
"Justice Senyo Dzamefe is the right, fair and competent choice for the next Chief Justice of Ghana," he said.
