Let them eat snark.
A woke French student has become the běte noire of the protests after she mocked business owners who lost their stores in the riots.
Lola-Fleur Whittaker, a leftist political influencer who studies at the prestigious Sciences Po Paris, appeared on a TV show Monday to defend the rioters.
“Your little shops, that’s real cute,” she said during an argument about who was to blame for the weekend’s violence on her appearance on La Grande Confrontation.
But the privileged student was confronted by Khemima Sheilha, owner of a chain of bakeries who had seen her businesses looted.
“It’s my life, Lola,” Sheilha said. “We’ve had to see our businesses smashed. What justifies terrorizing people’s lives?”
Whittaker subsequently tried to paint herself as a poor victim, claiming that her mother is a teacher who eats cookies for lunch because she can’t “pay for the cafeteria.”
But she was quickly outed for a social media profile that revealed she’s more bourgeoisie than proletariat.
She regularly shares pictures of vacations in exotic locations around the world, including Sicily, Greece, Malaysia, Egypt and Oman.
Whittaker, who earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Manchester, previously stood as a candidate for the far-left political party France Unbowed in Paris and is also a prominent leftist influencer.
During Monday’s heated debate, she also appeared to bizarrely suggest a link between the recent rioting and the attacks on Algerian immigrants by French police back in October 1961, La Depeche reported.
Whittaker was not immediately available for comment.
Around 2,500 arrests were made over the weekend, as violent mobs ran amok, looting luxury stores and torching historical monuments.
Curfews were implemented in multiple French cities on Monday “for as long as necessary,” in response to the country’s worst riots in years, French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu announced.
On Tuesday, he praised the curfews for helping to keep the peace overnight.
France is set to deploy the military on the streets to help the police ahead of further planned protests this weekend, which coincide with an NFL game in Paris between the New Orleans Saints and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
