Kaduna state governor, Senator Uba Sani, has urged members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving in the state to take advantage of the free transportation provided by the state government through its CNG-powered buses.
The governor said the buses, which currently operate on more than 40 routes across the state, were introduced to provide residents with free, safe and convenient transportation.
Sani made the call on Tuesday while addressing corps members at the closing ceremony of the 2026 Batch ‘C’ Stream I orientation course at the NYSC Temporary Orientation Camp, Government College, Kaduna.
“I am pleased to inform you that the State Government has launched CNG-powered buses to provide free, safe and easy transportation for our people. You are encouraged to take advantage of this initiative, as the buses currently operate on over 40 routes across Kaduna State,” he said.
The governor urged the corps members to remain security-conscious as they proceeded to their respective places of primary assignment, stressing that personal security was everyone’s responsibility.
He also advised them to respect the cultures and traditions of their host communities, identify their needs and undertake Community Development Service projects that would improve residents’ living conditions.
Sani called on government agencies and private organisations receiving corps members to provide them with a conducive working environment and prioritise their welfare throughout their service year.
He assured the corps members of the state government’s continued commitment to their welfare, adding that the government had renovated hostels at the temporary orientation camp and would continue to address other concerns affecting their well-being and security.
The governor commended the corps members for adapting to the camp environment and participating in the activities organised during the orientation course before formally declaring the three-week exercise closed.
Earlier, the NYSC Kaduna State Coordinator, Mr Abubakar Bawa, said the corps members had demonstrated discipline, resilience and commitment throughout the orientation exercise.
Bawa urged them to report promptly to their places of primary assignment and discharge their duties with diligence, dedication and a sense of responsibility.
He also encouraged the corps members to build on the vocational skills acquired through the Scheme’s Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme, urging them to maintain contact with their trainers during the post-camp phase to improve their prospects of becoming self-reliant.
The coordinator appealed to the state government for further support, particularly in supplementing the feeding of corps members during orientation courses and providing state allowances to improve their welfare.
He expressed appreciation to the state government and other stakeholders for supporting the NYSC programme in Kaduna State.
