Morocco and Israel have entered advanced discussions on a possible acquisition of the David’s Sling air defense system, according to the German military affairs magazine Europäische Sicherheit & Technik (ES&T) and sources consulted by Barlamane.com.
The system, jointly developed by Israeli firm Rafael Advanced Defense Systems and US company Raytheon (a subsidiary of RTX), is designed to intercept medium- and long-range ballistic missiles as well as cruise missiles.
The talks, reported on October 2, form part of the broader expansion of military cooperation between the two countries.
The German publication stated that discussions are advanced regarding the potential integration of David’s Sling into the Moroccan Armed Forces, which would allow Rabat to strengthen its airspace protection capabilities.
The project remains at the negotiation stage. No details have been disclosed regarding the transaction value, the number of batteries under consideration, or a delivery timeline.
An eventual purchase would mark a further step in relations between the Royal Armed Forces and Israel’s defense industry, from which Morocco has already acquired several systems.
These include the Barak MX air defense system manufactured by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) and the SPYDER system produced by Rafael. David’s Sling would add medium-range ballistic missile interception capabilities to Morocco’s existing layered air defenses.
