Riyadh – The Saudi Civil Defense announced on Saturday that the danger had passed in Mecca, Yanbu, Jeddah, and Taif, following a series of emergency alerts issued in those areas to warn of a potential threat.
This comes hours after Saudi Arabia announced it had intercepted a ballistic missile launched by the Houthi group toward Riyadh, and a drone in the Kingdom's Eastern Province.
Two loud explosions were heard in the early hours of Saturday morning in Riyadh, according to AFP, following a warning from the Saudi Civil Defense about a "hostile aerial attack."
An AFP journalist reported hearing two loud explosions a few minutes after residents received the warning, which was lifted shortly afterward.
The warning stated: "The area is under a hostile aerial threat. Please remain calm and stay indoors or in a safe place away from windows and doors."
The Civil Defense also issued a similar warning in Wadi al-Dawasir, south of the capital, and Najran in the south of the Kingdom.
