The government, trade unions and employers have agreed on changes to pay for public and state sector workers from January. Under the new pay scales, most employees will receive higher basic salaries next year, while no one’s pay will be reduced.
According to Labour Ministry figures, around 585,000 people work in the public sector. If the pay scales were not adjusted, employees in some areas would earn less than the minimum monthly wage which is currently 24, 900 crowns. According to Labour Minister Aleš Juchelka, the new pay system will be simpler and more predictable.
