Ten crude bombs were found inside an abandoned vanity bag in Dhaka Udyan area of Mohammadpur in the capital today (12 October).
The bomb disposal unit of the Special Response Battalion-2 (SRB-2) recovered the explosives and later defused them, Naimul Hasan, additional deputy inspector general and commander of SRB-2, confirmed.
Around noon, locals alerted SRB-2 after spotting the abandoned bag beside a site designated for the construction of Adabor Police Station in Dhaka Udyan.
SRB-2 members searched the bag and found 10 crude bombs wrapped in blue polythene, according to the battalion.
The bomb disposal unit then took the explosives to the Rayerbazar Martyred Intellectuals Memorial area, where they were defused in the afternoon.
Naimul Hasan said an investigation was underway to identify those who had left the bombs there.
Earlier, on 28 September, SRB-2 recovered and defused 15 crude bombs and two petrol bombs from the old trade fair ground in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.
On the same day, several suspected crude bomb-like objects were also recovered from the Rayerbazar Martyred Intellectuals Cemetery.
