Real Madrid is on the rebound as it pursues a third consecutive win in all competitions at home to Sevilla in La Liga this Sunday. However, things have been far from seamless in the early stages of Jose Mourinho’s return to the Real helm, with Los Blancos already six points behind leader and bitter rival Barcelona.
Following a derby defeat to nemesis Atletico Madrid prior to the recent international break, Real has returned to action with successive wins both domestically and abroad. The Special One’s side beat Villarreal last weekend before glancing a win over AS Roma in a seven-goal thriller in the Champions League.
Sevilla, meanwhile, is enjoying a resurgence under Luis Garcia Plaza and is up to fifth in La Liga, with a chance to pull within one point of Real with a win in the capital this weekend. Almost 18 years have passed since Los Nervionenses last pulled off a win at the Bernabeu, but this year feels like there’s a little more hope to be had for a surprise or two.
The guests’ odds are improved by the fact Vinicius Jr will not be part of Real’s squad after he was handed a four-match ban for pulling the hair of an opponent prior to being sent off in the win over Villarreal. Compatriot Endrick could replace him in the XI after scoring off the bench in Wednesday’s 4-3 victory over Roma, while Sevilla boss Plaza remains without Marcao, Jon Guridi and Miguel Sierra.
