The Yobe State House of Assembly has approved the establishment of a state police service as part of its consideration of proposed amendments to the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

He said, “The proposed establishment of state police is aimed at providing a constitutional framework that will enable states to maintain their own police services alongside the existing Nigeria Police Force.”
The Speaker added that the proposal was part of ongoing national discussions on security sector reform aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s capacity to address emerging security challenges.
