KATHMANDU, Oct 13: The Department of Immigration (DoI) has expanded the Foreign Nationals Management Information System (FNMIS) nationwide to track foreign nationals’ movements, improve security and facilitate tourism.
Speaking at an orientation programme in Nagarkot, Bhaktapur, on Monday, DoI Director Shiva Lamsal said the system would help authorities track where foreign nationals stay and travel during their visit to Nepal.

The system, initially introduced in hotels, travel agencies, money exchanges and other service providers in the Kathmandu Valley on January 1, 2025, has now been extended across the country.
Lamsal said 459 foreign nationals were deported in 2025, while 540 were deported between January 1 and October 10, 2026, for violating the law. Of them, 64 in 2025 and 61 by October 10, 2026, were sent back for immigration violations, including overstaying or engaging in activities contrary to their entry permits.
The system enables hotels, airlines, trekking and travel agencies, telecommunications companies, banks, tourist guides and other service providers to enter information directly into the department’s database.
According to the department, the system is expected to help monitor compliance with immigration rules, prevent potential crimes and locate foreign nationals who go missing during disasters.
