The timing was fitting: the visit came just hours after the three-time Grammy winner turned 47.
"I'm 47 years fresh. I've never looked better, never felt better. Never been more balanced. Never been more grateful," Ne-Yo, whose real name is Shaffer Chimere Smith, wrote in a birthday post marking the milestone.

Ne-Yo's first Kenya headline show
This is no ordinary visit. Tuesday, 20 October, Mashujaa Day, marks the first time Ne-Yo headlines a concert in Kenya.
The last time he was in the country was in 2015, when he appeared on Coke Studio Africa and recorded *Marry You* alongside Diamond Platnumz.
The show, dubbed *One Night Only: Brunch Edition*, runs from 3pm to 11pm at Ulinzi Sports Complex in Langata. Fenon Premium Productions and Radio Africa Group are behind the event, with Stanbic Bank and Pernod Ricard among the sponsors.
Fenon Events CEO Somoina Kimojino revealed the booking took two years to finalise. An earlier attempt was shelved due to national events, but the breakthrough came when Ne-Yo's team reached out while scheduling South African tour dates in Cape Town and Pretoria. Mashujaa Day was locked in deliberately, as Kenyans tend to seek daytime experiences on public holidays.
What to expect at Ulinzi
Ulinzi Sports Complex is already being transformed with peach, teal and deep green marquees, chandeliers, wooden bar tables and a grand black-draped main hall. Kiss 100's Mwalimu Rachel will host the event, with a DJ lineup featuring DJ Xclusive, DJ Andy Young, DJ Chunky, DJ Jesse, DJ Kronikx and DJ Shema. Live performances are also lined up from UK luxury showband Sol and The Gang, as well as Kenyan artist Mutoriah.
Organisers have introduced a dress code called "Ne-Yo Luxe," calling for shades of navy, bronze, olive green, gold, cream, burgundy and chocolate.
On the tickets front, demand has been fierce. The VIP Platinum tier at KSh 40,000 is completely sold out, while Standard Gold at KSh 15,000 sits at 95% capacity.
Table packages are also available, with a 4-seater going for KSh 160,000 and an 8-seater at KSh 320,000. A Gold Couple Package is priced at KSh 20,000.
The frenzy is no surprise given Ne-Yo's catalogue, which boasts over 23 billion streams across platforms. His hits include So Sick (1.26 billion streams), Miss Independent (1.09 billion) and Give Me Everything (2.28 billion). He also penned *Irreplaceable* for Beyoncé.
Fans are already mapping out their sing-along set list, with Because of You, Closer, Miss Independent, and So Sick all trending in conversations. One fan summed it up simply:
"He can do Miss Independent 5 times."
