This week the Los Angeles Rams (2-4) face the Las Vegas Riders (3-3). The Angelenos started the season as one of the favorites to win the Super Bowl, but after six weeks, they look like a team that will have trouble making the playoffs.
For their quarterback Matthew Stafford, a loss would bring forward something that is destined to happen this season. It would be the 123rd loss of his career, a figure that would tie him with Vinny Testaverde as the QB with the most games lost in NFL history. Without a doubt, a negative record that no one would like to hold, but which at the same time speaks to a long career in the league.
To be among the top of this ranking, you have to play for many years and, in general, do it well enough to remain a starter. In Stafford’s case, he is now 38 years old and has been in the NFL since 2009, when the Detroit Lions selected him as the No. 1 overall pick in the Draft. During his 12 seasons in Detroit, he won many games, but he could not take his franchise far, as he never won a playoff game (he played in three). He eventually requested a trade and ended up with the Rams in 2021.
QUARTERBACK WITH THE MOST LOSSES IN THE NFL
Vinny Testaverde (1987-2007) - Record: 90-123-1Matthew Stafford (2009-?) - Record: 122-122-1Eli Manning (2004-19) - Record: 117-117Drew Brees (2001-2020) - Record: 172-114Brett Favre (1991-2010) - Record: 186-113
During his first season in Los Angeles, Stafford not only won the first playoff game of his career, but also led the Rams to the victory in Super Bowl LVI, which in some way legitimized his status as a major star. In 2025 he was chosen MVP for the first time in his league career, and with such achievements on his résumé, it seems he was enshrined to make it into the Hall of Fame in the future. Unfortunately, it is only a matter of time before he tops the list of losses by QBs, as there is still a lot of season left.
