FORMER Norwich City and Finland striker Teemu Pukki has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 36.
Pukki, Finland’s all-time leading scorer with 43 goals in 133 international appearances, retired from international duty last year. He also holds the second-highest number of caps for the national team.
The forward enjoyed a successful spell with Norwich City from 2018 to 2023, scoring 88 goals in 210 appearances and helping the club secure promotion to the Premier League on two occasions.
In an Instagram post announcing his decision, Pukki reflected on the impact football had made on his life.
“I’ve gained a lot more from football than I ever dreamed of when I was a little boy,” he wrote.
“I’ve seen the world and gained experience because of football, and I don’t think I could have gotten anything like football anywhere else.
“It hasn’t always been fun or I haven’t always been able to enjoy it, but the love for football has remained — always. Big thanks to the great clubs and their fans.”
Pukki has been playing for Finnish club HJK Helsinki since 2025 and is set to bring his career to an end after the conclusion of the Veikkausliiga season on Nov 8.
His career also included spells with German side Schalke, Danish club Brondby and Major League Soccer outfit Minnesota United.
He also played for Celtic between 2013 and 2015, scoring nine goals in 38 appearances for the Scottish club.
