KARACHI: Gold prices increased in Pakistan on Tuesday, tracking gains in international bullion markets as oil prices and the US dollar retreated, while expectations of a Federal Reserve interest rate hike remained subdued ahead of key US inflation data due later this week.
According to rates issued by the All Pakistan Sarafa Gems and Jewellers Association (APSGJA), the price of 24-karat gold per tola rose by Rs900 to settle at Rs440,836.
Similarly, the price of 24-karat gold per 10 grams increased by Rs771 to Rs377,945.
In the international market, gold prices climbed by $9 to reach $4,183 per ounce, the association reported.
In contrast, silver prices remained unchanged at Rs6,532 per tola in the local market.
Global Markets Await US Economic Data
Globally, investors remained focused on developments in the Middle East and upcoming US economic indicators for clues about the Federal Reserve’s future interest rate decisions.
“Attention now turns to a busy week of US economic releases, including September CPI on Wednesday, followed by PPI and retail sales on Thursday and Fed Chair Kevin Warsh’s appearance at the IMF on Friday,” said Ole Hansen, head of commodity strategy at Saxo Bank.

Gold is traditionally considered a hedge against inflation and a safe-haven asset during periods of economic and geopolitical uncertainty. However, higher interest rates tend to weigh on demand for the precious metal because it does not offer interest returns, making yield-bearing assets more attractive.
Oil prices fell on Tuesday and were on track for their first decline in nearly a week, while the US dollar slipped from an 18-month high. Meanwhile, the benchmark 10-year US Treasury yield fell to its lowest level since October 2.
Lower bond yields reduce the opportunity cost of holding non-interest-bearing gold, which is priced in US dollars, potentially supporting demand for the precious metal.
