The Secretary of State for Arts and Culture, Matilde Muocha, and the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the National Agency for Tourism Development and Investment (ANDITUR), Hélder Jauana, met on Wednesday at the Ministry of Education and Culture. The meeting aimed to align actions and initiatives between the tourism and culture sectors, with a view to recognising culture as an important asset for strengthening the country’s tourism potential.
Among the various issues discussed, the two officials took the opportunity to coordinate the Tourism and Cultural and Creative Industries panel scheduled for the Mozambique Tourism Summit, a national forum for discussion and promotion of the tourism sector, which will take place on 5 and 6 November in Vilankulo, Inhambane province.
The panel, which focuses on the sector, will therefore be entitled “Culture as an Economic Asset for Tourism” and will bring together operators and professionals from the culture and tourism sectors.
Held under the motto “Mozambique: Where Africa Reinvents Itself”, the Mozambique Tourism Summit aims to highlight Mozambique’s potential as a tourist destination and an investment destination. The event is expected to bring together around 30 countries.
During the meeting, Matilde Muocha stressed the need for culture to be integrated with tourism, given that these two elements are among the main attractions for domestic and foreign tourists.
The Secretary of State for Arts and Culture and the Chairperson of ANDITUR share the same views regarding the creation of joint projects and activities within the country and abroad. The two parties will work to coordinate and participate in national and international events aimed at promoting both tourism and culture.
