By Zoila Palma: The San Ignacio Labour Department participated in the World Mental Health Fair in Benque Viejo del Carmen, highlighting the importance of workers’ health and well-being.
Esperanza Mendez Coleman represented the department and managed its booth on behalf of the Ministry of Immigration, Governance and Labour.
The department used the event to emphasize that workers’ health extends beyond physical well-being to include mental health, both of which can affect workplace safety, productivity and the ability to manage daily responsibilities.
Labour Commissioner Rissela Dominguez Patt said employers and workers both have a role to play in creating healthier workplaces.
She emphasized the importance of open communication, access to support services and working conditions that protect the health and dignity of employees, noting that safeguarding workers’ physical and mental well-being is essential to fostering safer and more supportive work environments.
