Haze: Schools in Johor to reopen this Monday
ALL educational institutions in Johor will resume operations starting on Monday, October 26, following a decline in Air Pollutant Index (API) readings across the state.
Johor State Education and Information Committee Chairman, Dr Muhammad Naqib Md Ghazali, said the decision was reached following a meeting of the Johor State Disaster Management Committee, taking into account assessments from relevant agencies.
“The downward trend in Air Pollutant Index (API) readings across Johor over the past five days—coupled with shifts in wind direction, increased humidity, and the forecast of rain—is expected to help mitigate the impact of the haze.
“Health risk assessments conducted by the Johor State Health Department are also a primary consideration, ensuring the safety of students, teachers, and the entire school community is consistently upheld,” he said today.
He added that the decision to reopen educational institutions also takes into account the necessity of conducting year-end examinations and preparations for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examinations.
In this regard, the Johor State Education Department (JPNJ) will coordinate the implementation of health and safety standard operating procedures (SOPs)—including the use of face masks and the monitoring of school activities—based on current API readings and existing guidelines.
He noted that the state government, in collaboration with relevant agencies, will continue to monitor the haze situation closely.
Any updates or further actions will be communicated through official channels as they arise.
The Johor State Government remains committed to prioritising the safety and health of the school community, while also ensuring the continuity of education for children in the state. – October 24, 2026
