The Lagos State Taskforce has arrested a dismissed operative, Yahaya Salami, popularly known as Adams, over alleged impersonation and extortion.
The agency said Salami, a former paramilitary operative attached to the taskforce, was dismissed several months ago over alleged misconduct, including theft, possession and use of a fake identity card, extortion of motorists and traders, and indiscipline.
A statement issued by the agency’s spokesperson, Gbadeyan Abduraheem, said the suspect allegedly continued to present himself as a serving taskforce official despite his dismissal.
The arrest was carried out at Oshodi Bus Stop after previous efforts to track him down proved unsuccessful, the agency said.
It stated that operatives had approached Salami for questioning but that he allegedly declined the invitation and resisted arrest.
The taskforce said its officers subsequently apprehended him through what it described as effective tactical coordination and professional conduct, with minimal force.
