Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has approved ₦230.62 million for the purchase of shares in Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals for 43,928 vulnerable women across the state’s 17 local government areas.
The initiative, being implemented in partnership with the Aliko Dangote Foundation, will see the foundation provide a matching grant of ₦230.62 million, bringing the proposed investment to ₦461.24 million.
Under the arrangement, each beneficiary will receive 20 shares, comprising 10 shares funded by the state government and 10 by the foundation, subject to applicable initial public offering conditions and successful allotment.
The development was contained in a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Baba Mallam Wali, and made available to journalists by Mamman Mohammed, Director-General of Press and Media Affairs to the Governor.
According to the statement, the beneficiaries include women from internally displaced households, widows with multiple dependants, women with disabilities and those living in extreme poverty.

Wali said the proposal followed engagements with the Aliko Dangote Foundation during the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York.
He said the initiative was designed to promote long-term financial independence by enabling vulnerable women to own financial assets rather than rely solely on conventional financial assistance.
He added that the scheme aligned with the Buni administration’s agenda of supporting vulnerable households and strengthening economic resilience in communities recovering from insurgency.
