Residents also complained about smoke from pyrotechnics spreading into nearby apartment buildings. One woman told 021.rs that her apartment was full of smoke and that she had called police twice, but said there had been no response.
The incidents occurred ahead of an SNS rally scheduled for Friday, October 16, at 6 p.m. in Freedom Square. Banners at the party's stands advertised the event.
Students had urged Novi Sad residents to ignore the rally and not give it importance, saying their struggle was based on truth, arguments and nonviolence. The rally is being held ahead of Serbia's October 25 parliamentary elections.
