The blockchain network has told users to move funds off its mainnet before it goes offline next month.
Sophon has set November 25 as the final date for users to withdraw assets from its mainnet before the network shuts down. The announcement, reported separately by Cointelegraph and CryptoBriefing, gives holders a clear window to act before the shutdown takes effect.
For users with funds on the network, the deadline is the central detail. Once the mainnet goes offline, the ability to retrieve assets through existing channels is expected to end. That makes the withdrawal window a hard cutoff rather than a soft suggestion.
Neither report detailed the specific reasons behind the shutdown decision. Projects in crypto wind down mainnets for a range of reasons, including migrations to new architecture, mergers with other chains, or a strategic decision to discontinue a product line. Without further detail from Sophon itself, the underlying cause remains unclear to outside observers.
What is clear is the operational risk such shutdowns pose to users who are slow to act. Blockchain networks that cease operations can leave assets effectively stranded if holders do not withdraw before infrastructure is retired. This is a recurring theme across the industry whenever a chain or layer announces an end-of-life timeline.
The episode is also a reminder of the custody and market-structure questions that follow any network sunset. Users holding tokens, liquidity positions, or other assets on a shutting-down mainnet typically need to actively migrate those holdings elsewhere. Exchanges, wallets, and bridges tied to the network may also need to adjust their own support timelines to match the deadline.
Sophon's announcement does not, based on available reporting, specify what will happen to assets that remain on the network after November 25. It is also not clear from the available reports whether a successor network, bridge, or migration path has been established for affected users. That leaves open questions for holders trying to plan around the deadline.
The timing gives affected users roughly a month, counting from the October reports, to review their positions and complete any necessary withdrawals. Given the finality implied by a mainnet shutdown, market participants with exposure to Sophon are likely to treat the date as a priority item on their near-term calendars.
Market Impact
A mainnet shutdown of this kind typically concentrates activity in the days before the deadline, as users rush to withdraw assets and close out positions. This can produce short-term spikes in on-chain transaction volume tied to the network as the cutoff approaches.
Beyond the immediate withdrawal window, the event may prompt renewed attention to how exchanges, wallets, and other infrastructure providers handle asset support for networks that are winding down. Projects undergoing similar transitions are often watched closely for whether they offer clear migration paths, since the absence of one can leave user funds exposed to operational risk.
With the November 25 deadline now set, the immediate focus shifts to how smoothly users are able to withdraw their assets before Sophon's mainnet goes offline.
Frequently Asked Questions
What has Sophon announced?
Sophon has set November 25 as the deadline for users to withdraw assets from its mainnet before the network shuts down.
Why is the Sophon mainnet shutting down?
The available reporting does not specify the reason for the shutdown, so the underlying cause has not been publicly detailed.
What happens to assets left on the network after the deadline?
Reports do not indicate what will happen to assets not withdrawn by November 25, and no migration path has been confirmed in available coverage.
Is a mainnet shutdown like this common in crypto?
Networks occasionally wind down mainnets due to migrations, restructuring, or discontinued products, making withdrawal deadlines a recurring feature of such transitions.
